Assistants in Art

One of my strategies when teaching is to build techniques gradually. Here Janene practiced mixing colours, background painting and blocking in, with a little help at the end for the finer details.



It is interesting to realise past and present artists use the help of assistants quite a lot in their work.


In the renaissance era large scale projects were often completed with multiple assistants. Michelangelo used assistants to help paint the backgrounds on the ceilings in the Sistine Chapel. Assistants are also widely used by contemporary artists today. The following article describes this in more detail.
