Drawing is a way of seeing part 2

Writer: Cathy HardingCathy Harding

This is my second study of Picasso - this time the painting 'Friendship'. I worked in acrylic on A3 cartridge paper. I transferred the painting by eye from my small laptop screen, then found out my scale was a bit out. Anyway my focus was on colour and tone. I find tone easy to see in black and white, but not so easy in colour (between colours) Thus I painted the right hand or slightly rear figure in grey tones so I could compare them. It was an interesting exercise. Especially the lower torso and working out whose legs were whose. What do you think?
